Ireland used its chances to win title at Brands Hatch The final round of the World Cup of Motorsport at Brands Hatch brought victory for Ireland. Adam Carroll won the sprint and went on to win the feature race, too. Neel Jani ended up eighth and third. In the final standings of the fourth A1GP season, Ireland ended up 17 points clear of defending champions Switzerland and 20 points ahead of Portugal. Sincere congratulations to Ireland from the Swiss team! What already became apparent in the practice and qualifying sessions initially became reality on Sunday: Neel Jani didn't manage to keep up with his rival in the battle for the title. At Brands Hatch, the Swiss car was too slow. Even Jani's aim to go for maximum attack on Sunday didn't help him any further. "In the sprint race, there wasn't much I could do with the car that still didn't handle properly", he reported. "In the afternoon, it all went significantly better. Unfortunately, an exhaust pipe broke after a few laps already, which had a noticeable effect on the engine power. I am sure that otherwise, I could have finished ahead of the Dutchman and maybe even put Ireland under pressure. But never mind. We will take on the next season with the aim of getting the title back." |

Saturday, May 02, 2009 A difficult situation for the A1 Team Switzerland in the battle for the title 8th and 4th grid positions for Neel Jani – two pole positions for Ireland Qualifying for the two final A1GP races at Brands Hatch didn’t quite go as planned for the Swiss team. With grid positions eight (sprint) and four (feature race), the situation for the battle for the title in the World Cup of Motorsport isn’t excellent – and even less so bearing in mind that Ireland will be on pole both times. Portugal, the third title candidate, didn’t do any better with fifth and ninth place. |

Thursday, February 12, 2009 A1 Team Switzerland is delighted to announce two new partners with FORDAHL-FOQ Group and CP. FORDAHL-FOQ FORDAHL-FOQ Group is one of the leading global players in the industry of timing components for telecommunication systems. The group, founded by Nils Engdahl, started its activities in 1980 with two little companies and a few employees in Switzerland and Germany. Currently, it employs some 100 staff members all over the world. Its production facilities in Switzerland and in Germany are the most up-to-date in Europe in their aria. The timing devices, so-called crystal oscillators, currently are being used in all telecommunication facilities including docking stations for mobile phones and data transmission systems. The expansion of the internet and telecommunications in general led to an increased demand for accurate timing to ensure perfect synchronisation at all levels of telecommunication networks. |

Sunday, January 25, 2009 Victory and second place for Neel Jani in New Zealand Switzerland has scored 26 points in the A1GP races at Taupo (New Zealand) and thus was the most successful team. Neel Jani won the feature race, having previously finished second in the sprint event. In the World Cup of Motorsport, Switzerland moved up from sixth to second. After problems in qualifying, the race results could hardly have been better. After the disappointment on Saturday with fourth and fifth place on the grid for the respective races, things were all right again for the Swiss team after the 15 lap sprint race. During the pit stops, Neel Jani overtook Dutchman Robert Doornbos and Portuguese Filipe Albuquerque and started his hunt for pole-sitter Adam Carroll from Ireland. On lap 11, the driver from Berne set the fastest race lap. Eventually, he came within 1.4 seconds of victory. |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 Tyre problems for Neel Jani The qualifying sessions for the A1GP races at Taupo, New Zealand, didn’t go as expected for the Swiss team. Fourth place on the grid for the sprint race and fifth place for the feature race wasn’t quite what the defending champions had expected. Neel Jani concluded that the tyres were the problem. “After the free practice sessions, that all went well, we had expected much more“, said Neel Jani. “With used tyres, I had usually been three to four tenths of a second faster than the rest of the field. But in qualifying, the balance of the car was by no means satisfying. In the corners, the rear of the car suddenly slid out, sometimes at the entry of a corner, sometimes at the exit.” Quick changes to the set-up didn’t cure the problem. Especially in the first sector, but also in the third part of the track, a lot of time was lost, exactly in those areas where everything had been going smoothly in free practice. “Until the end, I couldn’t find the right approach“, said Jani. “However, I am still not too pessimistic as far as the races are concerned, because we will be out on used tyres in the races. Now, we hope to be able to overtake a few opponents with a good start and an appropriate pit stop strategy.” |
